The Table Where We All Fit: Finding Belonging in the Busy

In the quiet of a Wednesday morning, before the flour starts to fly and the first sourdough loaf is scored, our home finds its truest rhythm. The "grove" is waking up outside, but inside, the focus shifts to the small hands and big questions gathered around our wooden table.

In this space, Belonging isn't just a category on a blog—it’s the very soul of why we do what we do at Loaves & Groves.
The Homeschool Hearth
For our family, belonging starts with the decision to learn together. Choosing to homeschool four days a week means our dining table wears many hats: it is a laboratory for science, a desk for literature, and a workbench for art.
There is a profound sense of connection that comes from watching my daughter discover the world at her own pace. Whether we are calculating the baker’s percentages of a new Einkorn recipe or reading about the history of the very grains we are grinding, education isn't something that happens to her—it’s something we live with her.
A Legacy of Hand-Carved Traditions
Belonging also means connecting to the hands that came before us. When I manage the schedules for our professional data or organize the "stocked shelf / apothecary shelf" in the kitchen, I’m reminded that order and beauty are ways of honoring our home.
This is why I started the Loaves & Groves shop. Every handmade item and every ounce of dehydrated starter I send out is a way of extending our hearth to yours. It’s an invitation to join a community that still values the "slow way"—a community that knows a handmade life is a life well-lived.
Finding Your Own Rhythm
You don’t have to live on a farm or bake every day to find your sense of belonging. It can be found in:
Shared Responsibilities: Like the way my husband and I trade off cooking duties, finding balance in the evening rush.
Small Rituals: The five minutes spent deadheading the flowers or the simple act of feeding a starter that has been alive for years.
Intentional Community: Reaching out to a neighbor with a warm loaf or sharing a gardening tip with a friend.
Pull Up a Chair
If the world feels a bit too fast or a bit too loud, I hope you find a soft place to land here. We are all just trying to cultivate a life that feels like home—one where we are rooted in the soil, nourished by the grain, and connected to one another.
There is always a seat at this table for you.
Bringing the Hearth Home:
From the Shop: If you're ready to start your own tradition, my Organic Dehydrated Sourdough Starter is available in the Loaves & Groves Etsy Shop. It’s a piece of our history, ready to become part of yours.
From the Kitchen: New to the journey? My Sourdough Starter Guide will walk you through those first beautiful days of life.
What does "belonging" look like in your home this week? Is it a shared meal, a quiet lesson, or a new bloom?
